Toroweap is an area on the north side of the Colorado River on the western end of Grand Canyon National Park. It is unique in that the landscape is dominated by volcanic features set against the sedimentary backdrop of much of the rest of the Canyon. It is an area of lava flows, cinder cones, and incredible views of the inner gorge of the Grand Canyon. It is far off the beaten track and this blog will detail the area and the time that I spend there.

Your picture of a kangaroo rat brought back memories of a lovely evening in Big Bend National Park. I got to my primitive camp site after dark under a huge umbrella of stars. I just got out my camp stove, a pot, the top of my cook box and some noodles.
ReplyDeleteA kangaroo rat started running in ever small circles around my camp, finally trying to grap the wooden spoon. I kept my hand on my end but shared my noodles with him and had an appreciative supper guest.
